Craziness

I told you not to get used to the two posts in two days - it took me another 4 months to post again! :)

The last several months have been absolutely crazy. I have increased my work hours, actually going into the office more; and my husband and I have been busy with some increased responsibility at our church. All in all, it has made for a hectic two months; and (to my discredit) school has taken a back burner. I was supposed to head back up to the office again today, but I decided to stay home. It turned out to be a wise decision.

With the increased work hours, I have been able to take the girls to the office with me. (For the most part, we have sat out of public view.) That has been fine for the most part, except... There are times the girls NEED my attention in order to do their school work (e.g., when I need to grade, when they have to take tests). I have a tendency to schedule an office day, then drag the girls up there even though they need my attention. That makes for a stressful time. If you are going to expect your children to do schoolwork and not need your attention, then you have to be sure that they are at a place in their schoolwork that accommodates that. Be fair to your children. The timing of today's schoolwork was such that they really needed my help, so I am very thankful that I stayed home.

The other major revelation today is how much MY attitude affects the school day. I have one daughter who is rough-and-tumble and one who loves frogs. That aside, emotionally, they are still girls. They get frustrated over something, and the tears start to flow. I want to keep moving get frustrated at their tears, and things just go south from there. When I can manage to slow down and keep my calm, things can calm down so much faster. School is as much about the teacher as the student.
