I was recently told that I needed to update my blog because it is "funny and interesting, when it's current." So I guess I will have to dig deep and come up with some entertainment. :)
Several months ago, I had the chance to visit with another homeschooling mom, a wonderfully sweet woman who has a degree in education. May I just say, I was more than a little overwhelmed. I walked away completely in love with her as a person and feeling completely inadequate as a homeschooling parent. There was so much that I hadn't considered about curriculum and learning styles - how would my children EVER succeed against such odds????
And then we took a field trip recently with our church homeschool group. One of the activities was a one-room schoolroom, and there was a short "class." I was so proud of both of the girls - they both volunteered to read in front of the class, and both did a wonderful job. During the "Math" class, they both answered math questions, even correctly. :) I felt so much better.
The girls were intelligent, competent, able to stand with their peers. They did a good job. I guess I am not yet a complete failure as a teacher.
The school year continues to go well. My drama queen has produced a lot less drama this year, and the marathon school days have decreased. My younger daughter is finding 3rd grade a little bit more challenging than 2nd grade, but she is still pulling in good grades. We have an easier time of getting into a rhythm of my doing office work while they are working on school. All in all, the year so far is a success.
